FluidFM for bottom-up neuroscience
Why and how to build, modify and analyze controlled neural networks?
Understanding how neurons interact on the single cell level promises to provide fundamental insights about both how the brain works and the diseases afflicting it. In this webinar FluidFM is introduced as powerful tool to study neuronal networks – one cell at a time.
In the first part, Dr. Dörig introduces FluidFM technology and how it can be applied for single cell manipulation and studies – with a focus on neurobiology.
In the second part, Prof. Vörös (Head of LBB at ETH Zurich) dives into some of the neuron research his group conducted over the past decade and discusses how neuronal circuits can be built, modified, and studied – also with the help of FluidFM.
Key learning points:
What is FluidFM and how can it be applied to single cell studies
Creating neural patterns – the bottom-up approach
Modifying neural networks with FluidFM
FluidFM as artificial synapse
About the speakers:
Prof. Dr. Janos Vörös
Full Professor in the Institute for Biomedical Engineering,
University of Zurich, ETH Zurich
Prof Janos Vörös is a professor at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the University of Zürich and the Department for Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich, where he has headed the Laboratory for Biosensors and Bioelectronics since 2006. He obtained his PhD in biophysics from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest.
His research interests include bioelectronics, biosensors, biophysics and biointerfaces. Prof. Vörös is also interested in answering basic research questions about how our brain processes and stores information using controlled neural networks that form the basis of a new scientific area: bottom-up neuroscience.
Dr. Pablo Dörig
VP Research Solutions,
Cytosurge AG
Pablo Dörig is a trained micro- and nanosystems engineer and has more than 10 years of experience with FluidFM technology. He won the ETH medal for his outstanding PhD thesis on FluidFM, in which he built prototype FluidFM systems and established proof-of-principle experiments together with biologist collaborators. With his great expertise and a good connection to our customers and partners, he brings the research market’s voice into Cytosurge. In his position, Pablo strives to establish FluidFM in scientific labs around the world.
